Clear + Brilliant

Union Square Laser Dermatology is one of the first practices in New York to offer Clear + Brilliant. It is the first device of its class that targets early signs of aging such as uneven pigmentation, fine lines and textural changes. Clear + Brilliant works by creating millions of microscopic treatment zones of laser energy in your skin to replace damaged skin with healthy, younger looking tissue.

A series of 4 to 6 treatments can be performed on the face, neck and hands, every 2 weeks. The treatments are well tolerated and typically resolve with mild redness lasting a few hours. Our Medical Director Dr. Anne Chapas demonstrated this device on the Dr. Oz Show in October 2011.

Special Holiday Offers

The holiday season is right around the corner and we want to bring to your attention two great promotions! Medicis is offering a $50 rebate on Dysport valid November 1st 2011 to December 31st 2011. Allergan is also offering a $50 rebate on Botox valid from now until January 16th. Both Botox and Dysport are injections used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines, without changing the look of your whole face. With just 1 injection into each of 5 points between and over the eyebrows, Dysport and Botox block the signal from the nerve to the muscles. This ultimately results in a reduction of muscle activity that reduces contraction of the muscles that cause frown lines. The effects will last well into 2012. Watch Dr. Chapas demonstrating botulinum toxin injections on our website.

Fall Skin Tips

Fall's colder and drier air makes it necessary to change our skin care and adapt to this changing environment. Fall is a great time to reverse the summer sun damage and prepare for the even drier winter months. Here are a few tips:

1. Change from light lotions to heavier moisturizers.
The mix of cold, windy weather outside with radiant heat indoors quickly zaps moisture from the skin. To keep moisture from evaporating from the skin, try using barrier moisturizing creams regularly. The best and strongest ones tend to have "lanolin" or "dimethicone" as the active ingredients. They can be used on the hands and body, and are most effective when applied thickly and used overnight. For dry, chapped hands or feet, lather on Aquaphor or Vaniply ointment and follow with cotton socks or gloves, to help the product enter the skin even better.

2. Shower smarter.
Even though it may be freezing outside, jumping into a hot shower can rob your skin of needed moisture, causing it to become drier. Instead, try showering in lukewarm water and apply moisturizer while your skin is still slightly damp to seal in the moisture. This strategy will help prevent the dry skin that can lead to "winter's itch."

3. Just because it's Fall, don't skip the sunscreen.
Ultraviolet damage from the sun occurs year round. Time spent at football games, pumpkin picking, or any outdoor activity still exposes our skin to damaging ultraviolet rays. Wear a sunscreen that protects against UVA and UVB rays, is broad spectrum and has an SPF of 30 or higher.

Product of the Month: Elure Cream

Syneron's Elure Creme is a skincare product for men and women who want brighter and more evenly-toned complexions. It is the first scientifically proven enzymatic topical skin lightening product that breaks down excess pigmentation gently, improving the appearance of skin tone, evenness and radiance in just one month.

The Elure product line is based on the proprietary enzyme Melanozyme, which is a naturally derived enzyme found in a mushroom that grows on trees. Elure utilizes Melanozyme to break down pigment in the skin, resulting in a more even skin tone. Elure can be used with a patient's regular skin care regimen because it is non-irritating and does not react negatively with other topical products.

The Elure lotion is available for purchase in the office for $150 and the Elure face wash for $35.
