During chemical peels, various acid solutions are applied to the skin to break the connections between skin cells. Peels can be superficial to exfoliate the upper most layer of skin or deeper to improve pigmentation and skin texture. Peels are great first line treatments for many conditions and great maintenance in between other treatments. They can be performed on their own or in conjunction with a facial. Depending on the type of peel, recovery time can range from minimal with no real “peeling” to a few days of mild redness and exfoliation. Patients generally see improved skin tone and texture with each treatment.
Here are answers to Frequently Asked Questions about Chemical Peels.
One week prior to all peels, discontinue use of any retinoids, hydroquinone, and benzoyl peroxide products. Patients with hyperpigmentation disorders may be pretreated with a 4% hydroquinone 2-4 weeks prior to the peel to reduce epidermal melanin.
We currently offer the following chemical peels:
Salicylic Acid Peel: Highly effective superficial peeling agent, oil reducer, and pore cleanser. Great for acne-affected skin as it typically reduces the severity of acne blemishes, improves the appearance of large pores, and evens out skin tone and texture. Available in concentrations of 20% or 30% for face, back and chest.
Glycolic Acid Peel: Clinically proven and effective treatment in reducing the effects of skin aging. Skin will look healthier, smoother, reducing the look of fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone and texture, and photo damage.
Pumpkin enzyme peel: A powerful antioxidant and mild retinolic acid substitute. A natural repair therapy, using beta carotene and ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) to combat oxidative, free radical damage. Great for sensitive skin, safe for pregnancy and menopausal women, or those wanting an alternative to treat alpha hydroxyl acids to treat pigmentation abnormalities and acnaic skin.
SkinMedica Illuminizing peel: Very superficial, non invasive peel, with no downtime, great for 1st time peel patients or those looking for mild exfoliation with little to no peeling. Best for treating mild skin conditions such as fine lines and wrinkles, sun-damage and pigment irregularities. Suitable for all skin types.
SkinMedica Vitalize peel: Superficial peel indicated for mild to moderate conditions of photo damaged skin, fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentary irregularities, including melasma, superficial scarring, and acne. Appropriate for all skin types. Peeling will generally last 2-3 days. More information about the SkinMedica Vitalize peel can be found on our Frequently Asked Questions about Chemical Peels.
Microdermabrasion uses a diamond tip wand and suction to exfoliate the uppermost layers of the skin. It can be used as a primary treatment to improve skin texture and clarity of skin, enhance deep pore cleansing, and help manage blackheads and milias. It can used prior to laser treatments such as photodynamic therapy (PDT) to enhance the effect of the treatment. Treatments can be performed on all parts of the body with minimal recovery times.
FACIALS AND SKIN CLEANSING
Acne treatment: Pore cleansing and exfoliation using steam and a clarifying/purifying mask to decongest and unclog pores. Face, back, or both.
Deep cleansing facial: Enzymes are used to cleanse, soften and remove excess sebum. This facial involves deep cleansing and exfoliation, with steam, extractions, facial, neck and shoulder massage and a mask.
Back peel and pore cleansing: 30% Salicylic acid combined with extractions to refine skin texture and tone, decrease skin discoloration, reduction of excess oil.
Oxygen facial: Oxygen facials combat visible signs of aging linked to poor conveyance of oxygen from subcutaneous capillaries to the surface of the skin. They address the deficiency by delivering high concentrations of oxygen directly to the epidermis. A stream of pressurized oxygen infused with botanical, vitamin, mineral, and nutrient extracts is applied to the face and neck. The oxygen helps the absorption of the moisturizing agents into the skin for a smoother, plumper look, providing a healthy glow.
Face, back, or both.
SKINCEUTICALS MICROPEELS (MPs)
These micropeels are customized treatments to accommodate all skin types and consist of a two step procedure combining dermaplaning with a chemical peel solution. Micropeels are ideal for fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, laxity, dullness and skin imperfections.
The 2 steps of a Micropeel:
1-Exfoliation: Dermaplaning removes surface debris with a dermaplaning blade, and primes skin for the chemical peel solution.
2-Chemical peeling: peeling acid options are chosen/customized to accommodate skin type and condition.
Micropeel AHA Solution Options (strongest to weakest):
Pigment Balancing Masque: glycolic & citric acid, Vitamin C, embilica. High performance lightening agents combined with aggressive exfoliants to lighten and even out the texture of photodamaged skin.
Micropeel 20 or 30 Solution: 20% or 30% Glycolic acid helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, laxity, hyperpigmentation, dullness and skin imperfections.
Micropeel Sensitive Skin: Niacin, lactic acid, usnic acid. Exfoliate and decongest pores while hydrating skin.
The VI peel combines the strongest and most effective acids suitable for all skin types.
