Liposonix
Union Square Laser Dermatology is one of the first practices in the United States to offer LipoSonix, a non-invasive fat reduction procedure that allows patients to slim down the waistline and lose one pant or dress size without surgery or downtime. LipoSonix uses high intensity ultrasound to heat and destroy the fat under the skin. Dr. Chapas can customize the treatment, which takes about one hour, to permanently destroy targeted fat without harming the skin. The body then naturally processes and removes the destroyed fat tissue over a period of 8 to 12 weeks, leaving behind the desired slimmer, more contoured waistline. Clinical studies show an average waist circumference reduction of approximately 1 inch after a single treatment. The versatility of LipoSonix allows patients to target specific areas to eliminate unwanted fat in the abdomen and waistline when diet and exercise just aren’t enough to lose that last inch. Learn more about LipoSonix on our website.
Dr.Chapas will demonstrate LipoSonix on the Doctor Oz Show in a segment titled “Groundbreaking treatments for our biggest body dilemmas” that will air on January 6, 2012. Check your local listings for stations and times.
New Year, New Neck
Dr. Anne Chapas reveals the secrets to maintaining a youthful neck.
They say that you can tell a person’s age by looking at their neck. While lasers, botox and fillers can help make faces look ten years younger, often the neck can be a giveaway of one’s age.
To tighten and improve fine lines and discoloration in the neck area, Dr. Chapas recommends a treatment with ablative fractional resurfacing lasers such as the Fraxel re:pair. Clinical studies have shown that by micropscopically vaporizing the neck skin surface, Fraxel re:pair treatment can tighten saggy neck skin and eliminate sun spots. Many patients have achieved neck lift type results without the risks and recovery time of surgery under general anesthesia. Winter is the perfect time for this type of treatments as scarves and turtle necks can cover the mild redness and swelling that may occur for several days after the procedures.

Winter Skin Tips
A hot shower isn’t the best way to battle the cold weather.
Even though it may be freezing outside, jumping into a hot shower can rob your skin of moisture, causing it to dry out. Instead, try showering in lukewarm water. Also in the winter you don't actually need to shower everyday. As long as you wash the areas with a lot of sweat glands (around your neck, underarms and between your legs) you can get away with a shower every other day.
Skip the soap.
Soaps actually take the oils out of your skin so instead, opt for a moisturizing body wash.
Moisturize immediately after showering.
Apply moisturizer to your body right out of the shower while your skin is a little damp. You have about 3 minutes from the time you get out of the shower to seal in hydration while your pores are still open.
Create a barrier to keep the water in.
The mix of cold, windy weather outside and indoor heat quickly zaps moisture from the skin. To keep water from evaporating from the skin, try using a barrier cream. The best and strongest ones tend to be greasy ointments that seal moisture into the skin. They can be used on the hands and body, and are most effective when used overnight.
Don’t forget the sun in Winter.
Even though it’s winter, don’t forget sun protection. This is especially important when you are outside, partaking in winter sports like skiing. Always have a small tube of sunscreen on hand and apply on every 2-3 runs. Not only is a goggle tan unattractive, it is really unhealthy as well!
