Before and After photos for right thigh treatment with truSculpt

The truSculpt™ system provides non-invasive radio frequency treatment for body sculpting. TruSculpt™ uses radiofrequency energy for deep tissue heating that promotes the non-invasive removal of fat and the tightening of the overlying skin. In addition to reducing fat, truSculpt treatments can help improve skin tone, and can also improve the appearance of cellulite.

Dr. Chapas and Dr. MacGregor are leading authorities on truSculpt. After working with Cutera, the device’s manufacturer, to establish the most effective protocols, we were pleased to offer truSculpt™ to our patients in early 2013. Our experience has been that truSculpt™ is well tolerated by our patients, with minimal discomfort and no downtime. Typically 1-2 treatments are necessary for the best results, which generally appear over a period of 4-16 weeks following the treatment. We continue to work with Cutera to develop treatment protocols for new areas, such as the neck.

We have also found that truSculpt™ can often complement other body contouring treatments, and can be used to treat a wide range of areas, including certain areas that present challenges for other noninvasive systems.

Here are the answers to some Frequently Asked Questions about truSculpt:

Q: What is truSculpt?

A: truSculpt is a non-invasive RF (Radio Frequency) technology that delivers deep heating to adipose tissue for body sculpting, fat reduction and skin tightening.

Q: Am I the right candidate for truSculpt?

A: Dr. Chapas or Dr. MacGregor will determine whether truSculpt is the best treatment for you during your consultation. Typically appropriate patients have a BMI less than 30 and have unwanted fat in different areas of the body.

Q: Why choose UnionDerm for truSculpt?

A: At UnionDerm all our treatments are administered by top dermatologists, not by a nurse, medical assistant or technician. This maximizes the benefits of these procedures and minimizes the possibility of complications. Dr. Chapas and Dr. MacGregor are leading authorities on truSculpt and have worked with Cutera, the devices’s manufacturer, to develop our proprietary truSculpt protocols. In many situations truSculpt works best in combination with other treatments, and our comprehensive range of non-surgical body contouring devices and our expertise in administering these treatments allows us to design the best personalized non-surgical body contouring plan for each patient.

Q: Who cannot be treated with truSculpt?

A: Your suitability for truSculpt will be determined during your consultation with Dr. Chapas and Dr. MacGregor. Patients that cannot be treated with truSculpt include:
– Those who are pregnant
– Those with cardiac pacemakers or internal defibrillators
– Those with malignant or benign tumors in the target area
– Those with metallic implants in the target area of any kind including joint replacements.

Q: Can truSculpt be used on all skin types?

Yes, in general truSculpt can be used on all skin types.

Q: How long does a treatment take?

Treatment time depends on the area(s) treated, but typically a treatment takes between 15 minutes and an hour per area treated.

Q: How many treatments will be needed?

Dr. Chapas or Dr. MacGregor will discuss with you the likely number of treatments that will be needed based upon the area(s) you wish to have treated and your desired results. Typically 1-2 treatments are needed for each area, spaced 4-8 weeks apart.

Q: When will I start seeing visible results?

The energy delivered by truSculpt triggers the body’s immune system to break down fat cells in treated areas. This process takes anywhere from 4 weeks to 3 months. You may begin to see results anytime during that period, or even later.

Q: What do I need to do before a treatment?

There is no special preparation needed. You will have to remove any jewelry or body piercings in the area prior to treatment.

Q: What happens during the treatment?

After a brief pre-treatment preparation, Dr. Chapas or Dr. MacGregor will apply the truSculpt handpiece to your skin and will deliver targeted pulses of appropriately calibrated RF energy. Each pulse will last on average 4 minutes; upon completion, the handpiece will move to an adjacent area to begin a new pulse. The actual treatment will typically last between 15 minutes and an hour, depending on the number of pulses applied.

Q: What does it feel like?

The RF energy will heat deep layers of the skin, but most patients find the resulting discomfort easily tolerable. Your physician can adjust the temperature depending upon your comfort level. Typically no pain medication, topical anesthetics, gels, or active cooling will be needed.

Q: Can I return to normal activities after my treatment?

Yes, the procedure is non-invasive, so typically you can return to normal activities immediately. Patients frequently return to work right after the session.

Q: Is truSculpt safe? Is it painful? Are there side effects?

The truSculpt system is designed to provide a safe and comfortable procedure. Typically, there is no downtime after the treatment though patients may experience mild discomfort. Side effects can include redness, sweating, and mild tenderness in the treated areas. Usually these side effects resolve within a few hours. Dr. Chapas or Dr. MacGregor will discuss what to expect during and after treatment during your consultation, and will answer any questions you may have.
