As we get into the full swing of summer, we thought it was a great time to share some of our tips and tricks for healthy, beautiful summer skin. In addition, many people assume that skin treatments should be avoided this time of year due to the added sunlight and fear of downtime from the beach or BBQ weekend. Not to fear! We have you covered with some suggestions for perfect summertime treatments that can give your skin a little boost, and you the look you deserve.

Make Bikini Weather = Bikini Body: Even if you’ve been paying attention to your diet and incorporating more exercise, many of us still struggle with areas of stubborn fat. Whereas fat removal used to be invasive, today’s technology offers a range of noninvasive, nonsurgical options. Here at Union Square Laser Dermatology alone we have advanced technologies such as CoolSculpting® (painlessly freezes away fat), Velashape (also great for cellulite), TruSculpt™ (which can also help tighten the skin), and Liposonix (which uses focused ultrasound to target fat). And, in line with you summer schedule, all of these can be done comfortably with virtually no downtime.

Warm Weather Makes You Sweat Sweet: It’s only natural that the hot, humid weather makes us sweat, but some of us have a bit more of a sweating issue than others, and it can be embarrassing. If antiperspirants aren’t doing the trick, you may want to consider an exciting new technology called “MiraDry.” MiraDry is the latest technology that provides a significant reduction of underarm sweat and the only non-invasive technology approved by the FDA for providing lasting results. And best of all, there is no downtime, so you can get back to your favorite summer activities straight away.

Your Style Means More Than You Think: What we wear over our skin can go a long way to preserving its natural beauty. Headed to the beach? Sure the baseball cap and ponytail look is cute and sporty, but a classically stylish woman has a couple wide-brimmed hats at her disposal. Wear them and you’ll not just look great, but your skin will thank you.

21st Century Ways to Tighten Skin: It can be tough to flaunt that new bathing suit if you’re feeling self-conscious about sagging skin. Today, we have a wide range of noninvasive technologies to address skin laxity issues, including Thermage CPT®, Ultherapy®, and Protégé Elite. These procedures are proven to improve the appearance of unwanted skin laxity in areas such as the neck, abdomen, buttocks, and extremities. Overall, it’s a great way to show your skin some summer love.

Sunscreen and Makeup: Okay, wearing sunscreen isn’t breaking news; we know. But if you’re wearing makeup as well, did you know that the order in which you apply could influence your sunscreen’s effectiveness? “Blocking” sunscreens containing zinc or titanium dioxide, can go on either before or after makeup. However, if you’re using a chemical-based sunscreen (typically with avobenzone) those are absorbed into the skin and should be applied before makeup. Want to keep it simple? When in doubt, apply the sunscreen first.

Hydrate: Don’t forget that proper hydration is your skin’s best friend (that means drinking a lot of water, not just your favorite Pinot Grigio). Weather you’re at the beach or just running errands around town, you’re body is likely losing more water than you think. Replenish and rehydrate to keep your skin looking great from the inside out.

Whether it’s at home or in our office, the keys to beautiful summertime skin are easier than you think.
