What is Vascular Redness?
Vascular redness refers to visible redness on the skin caused by the dilation, damage, or increased visibility of blood vessels close to the surface. It can appear as diffuse redness, broken capillaries, or spider veins and is often found on the face, neck, or chest, though it can also be present on the body. Several factors can contribute to vascular redness, including rosacea, broken capillaries, sun damage, skin sensitivity, hormonal changes, and medical conditions.

Who is a Candidate for Vascular Redness Treatments?
Candidates for vascular redness treatments are those seeking to reduce the appearance of redness, broken capillaries, or vascular lesions caused by various conditions. Ideal candidates include those with rosacea, broken capillaries, spider veins, port-wine stains, angiomas, or general facial redness. These treatments are also suitable for addressing redness caused by sun damage, post-traumatic or post-surgical vascular changes, and residual redness from acne scarring.
However, certain individuals may not be suitable for these treatments. These include those with active skin conditions like eczema or severe acne, individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or those who have recently tanned skin or are taking photosensitizing medications. Patients prone to keloid scarring should also discuss risks with their provider. To learn more about if these treatments are right for you, please schedule a consultation with one of our board-certified dermatologists.
Our Vascular redness Treatment Options
At UnionDerm, we offer a selection of cutting-edge treatment devices to combat vascular redness, including:
DermaV,
DermaV is a laser treatment that utilizes two wavelengths to target brown and red skin discoloration simultaneously. It works by delivering controlled laser energy that’s converted into heat in your blood vessels. In turn, this heat contracts your blood vessels, fading their appearance. It’s especially effective for reducing vascular skin concerns like redness, rosacea, flushing, and spider veins. DermaV also fades age spots, birthmarks, and freckles.
Each DermaV treatment can range from 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the condition being targeted. You might feel a little discomfort during treatment—like a rubber band softly snapping against your skin, but the cooling element helps reduce any discomfort. Some patients will see results after one treatment, while others may require multiple sessions.
Excel V+
Excel V+ has the power and precision to safely and effectively treat skin conditions from challenging vascular and pigmentary discoloration to today’s most common skin concerns. Vascular lesions are a common type of common skin concern, affecting up to 50% of individuals aged 18 years and older. Furthermore, with over 40% of the population susceptible to pigmentary concerns, these conditions, whether chronic or cosmetic, can have a serious effect on people’s quality of life and well-being.
The award-winning Excel V+ was developed based on feedback from leading physicians worldwide. A solid-state laser system that incorporates two proven wavelengths – 532 nm and 1064 nm – to address more than 20 unique indications on all skin types. The Excel V+ laser system features the broadest set of capabilities for treating the widest range of superficial to deep vascular conditions, benign pigmented lesions, and skin revitalization concerns.
Vbeam Prima
Vbeam is a type of pulsed dye laser that treats skin issues related to blood vessels. Whether you have rosacea, spider veins, or port-wine stains, Vbeam laser is a great treatment option. It has been FDA-approved and used to treat these conditions for more than 20 years. There is also a new and improved Vbeam laser available called the Vbeam Prima.
The Vbeam Prima has an additional laser wavelength (1064 nm) to treat larger and deeper blood vessels, making it two lasers in one! In addition, the original 595 nm laser technology has been improved, making it more effective in delivering greater energy to the tissue. The spot size of the laser is also larger, which increases the speed of treatment and delivers the energy more evenly to the skin. On top of that, the laser is even safer to use with the addition of a contact cooling handpiece. This handpiece protects the skin by keeping it cool as the laser energy is delivered to the target.
Anyone with unwanted redness, rosacea, port wine stains, or facial or leg spider veins is a good candidate for the Vbeam Prima. Our dermatologists also use this laser to help resolve bruising after surgical or minimally invasive procedures. It’s also helpful in treating redness associated with acne, as well as red stretch marks and scars.
Following treatment, redness, mild swelling, or puffiness can occur and will last 1–3 days. Bruising, though less likely, can also occur and can last several days to a week.
