CLEAR + BRILLIANT
(+ COMPLETE)

What is Clear + Brilliant®?

The Clear + Brilliant® laser is FDA-approved and optimized for preventing and addressing early signs of aging including skin texture, firmness, elasticity, and pore-size appearance. It has been one of our favorite energy devices as it provides less invasive and affordable treatments with minimal downtime that can be preventative as well as restorative. Several patients notice improved skin appearance and a “glow” almost immediately, and it is a great introductory laser for patients who do not need more intensive treatments or want to avoid downtime.

This treatment works by creating micro-thermal zones in the skin, stimulating new collagen production for overall skin rejuvenation. Clear + Brilliant is a great option to address skin concerns such as early signs of aging, uneven skin tone and texture, sun damage, large pores, and more.

The Permea treatment combines the Clear and Brilliant laser with a topical antioxidant treatment. The special Permea handpiece is optimized for brighter, more even skin tone and enhanced skin permeability.

Why Choose UnionDerm for Clear + Brilliant® Treatments?

All of our physicians have been using Clear + Brilliant since their cosmetic fellowships and trainings, and are long-time experts in the use of the device. We are currently participating in two clinical trials that are examining the safety and effectiveness of Clear + Brilliant to treat the neck and chest area and another that’s looking at the Permea portion of the Clear + Brilliant System to treat melasma. We are pioneers in combining Clear + Brilliant with other treatments such as photodynamic therapy. Our combination treatment on the chest was shown to improve the skin appearance on the chest more than photodynamic therapy alone.

Who is a Candidate for Clear + Brilliant®?

Patients who wish to prevent early signs of aging can often benefit from Clear + Brilliant treatments. Common concerns addressed with this treatment include uneven skin tone and texture, large pores, and sun damage. This treatment is safe for all skin types and tones. However, it may not be ideal for those with certain skin conditions such as actinic keratosis, melasma, rosacea, and psoriasis. To learn if you are a candidate for Clear + Brilliant, please contact our office today to schedule a consultation.

What Can I Expect with Clear + Brilliant®?

This non-invasive and gentle treatment is ideal for individuals of all skin types. A topical numbing cream may be applied to ensure your comfort. Our medical professional will then gently guide the Clear + Brilliant® handpiece across the target area and actively treat your skin, creating microscopic treatment zones, for approximately 15-20 minutes. Patients may experience a well-tolerated heating sensation.

Following treatment, minor redness and swelling may occur, which usually resolves within an hour. It is important that patients follow the instructions provided to them by our team following their laser energy treatment to ensure optimal results. This may involve avoiding sun damage due to sun exposure with the use of sunscreen and protective clothing. Makeup can be applied following treatment to cover redness if desired.

Most patients can begin to notice a visible improvement in their skin within a few days of treatment and greater improvement with a series of treatments. Results will continue to improve over the next couple of months as collagen continues to generate, resulting in a healthy glow and younger-looking skin.

What Areas Does Clear + Brilliant® Treat?

ACCUFIT

What is Accufit?

Accufit is a revolutionary, non-invasive sculpting treatment that tones the abdomen, arms, thighs, and buttocks muscles to deliver impressive, athletic results. This device was specifically engineered to directly activate the muscles. It works by channeling controlled energy through the target muscle to prompt a range of responses depending on the chosen treatment mode.

Why Choose UnionDerm for Accufit Treatments?

UnionDerm was the very first practice to offer Accufit in New York City in early 2022. We also participated in a clinical trial with Accufit to assess the device’s ability for strength-building and muscle enhancement on the upper extremities by targeting biceps and triceps. Our findings were presented at conferences for both The American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery; as well as published in The Journal of Lasers in Surgery and Medicine

Who is a Candidate for Accufit?

Men and women who have plateaued in their workouts but desire enhanced muscle tone are often ideal candidates for Accufit. This treatment is also a great fit for those who are experiencing muscle atrophy following rapid weight loss due to Semaglutide medications such as Ozempic and Wegovy. Accufit can help to rebuild and strengthen muscles, helping patients achieve their desired aesthetic results.

It is important that patients understand that Accufit should not be used as a substitute for exercise. Those who live an active lifestyle and maintain a healthy diet will often see the best results. Individuals with an electrical device in their bodies, such as a pacemaker, should not undergo this treatment. If you are interested in learning if Accufit is right for you, contact our office today to schedule a consultation appointment.

What Can I Expect with Accufit?

Accufit delivers electro-muscular stimulation to the treated area through attachable electrodes. It builds muscle by causing muscle contractions—the same way exercise does. Unlike competitive devices, Accufit uses waveforms to simulate an actual workout. You’ll go through a series of twists, holds, grips, and taps. The relaxing treatments are about 30 minutes each and do not cause any discomfort! Our Board-Certified Dermatologists recommend an initial series of 4 treatments within 2-4 weeks. Optimal results appear in 8-12 weeks (more average muscle mass gain than any competitive device). We also offer an exclusive membership program for those interested in long-term benefits!

What Areas Does Accufit Treat?

  • Abdomen
  • Arms
  • Thighs
  • Gluteus

Schedule a Consultation

If you are considering Accufit or would like to schedule a consultation, please contact UnionDerm today. We will be happy to schedule your appointment with one of our skilled physicians to discuss your customized treatment options. Accufit is available at our two New York City locations: Union Square and Central Park as well as in The Hamptons at our Water Mill, NY office.

COOLSCULPTING & COOLSCULPTING ELITE

What is CoolSculpting®?

CoolSculpting® and CoolSculpting® Elite are non-invasive fat-removal procedures offered at our Union Square and Central Park offices.

CoolSculpting Elite offers enhancements in technology and is intended to reduce unwanted fat tissue, utilizing a patented method known as cryolipolysis, or the use of cooling to break down fat.

CoolSculpting® Elite contains larger cooling panels and a curved applicator to hug the body’s contours naturally. This innovative treatment employs precisely controlled cooling to naturally reduce unwanted fat in the abdomen, flanks, upper arms or neck, and jowls (double chin). Fat cells are frozen, and once crystallized, these fat cells are naturally eliminated from your body.

Why Choose UnionDerm for CoolSculpting?

Our physicians have been performing CoolSculpting treatments since its FDA clearance in 2010, and it continues to be the gold standard for non-invasive fat removal.

Additionally, Dr. Ugonabo has led and participated in several clinical trials focused on the advancement of body procedures, and those findings have been published in the top dermatological journals, including The Journal of Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, and presented at conferences for both The American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, among others.

Who is a Candidate for CoolSculpting®?

Ideal candidates for CoolSculpting® include individuals within 20 pounds of their ideal weight, wishing for a more toned, slim, and tightened physique. Patients must have no hanging or loose skin in the treatment area and only require a slight reduction in body fat to reach their cosmetic goals. The best way to determine whether you are an ideal candidate for treatment with CoolSculpting Elite is through a private consultation with a UnionDerm board-certified dermatologist.

What can I expect with CoolSculpting®?

During the CoolSculpting procedure, a non-invasive applicator is placed on the patient, and the tissue being treated is brought into contact with large cooling panels on the applicator. The Coolsculpting system delivers precisely controlled cooling to target and eliminate fat cells in specific body areas, such as the abdomen, love handles, and the back. The fat is cooled for up to an hour per application site while the patient sits comfortably in the office.

What areas does CoolSculpting® treat?

  • Submental
  • Back
  • Upper Arms
  • Thighs
  • Abdomen
  • Flanks
  • Gluteal Folds

KYBELLA

What is Kybella?:

Kybella is a synthetic formulation of deoxycholic acid, which is a substance naturally synthesized by our body and used to break down and absorb dietary fat. Kybella has been under development for more than 9 years, and has been the subject of over 20 clinical studies involving more than 2600 patients. When properly injected in the chin area, it has been shown to dissolve submental fat (which causes double chin) and result in significant cosmetic improvement by creating a more streamline contour along the jawline.

What can I expect with Kybella?:

Kybella was approved by the FDA in May 2015. Dr. Chapas has participated in Kybella’s training program to train physicians nationwide since the summer of 2015. Kybella is administered by injections into the fat under the chin through a series of treatments spaced no less than one month apart. The treatment plan is tailored to the desired outcome by the treating physician. The total number of treatments varies–typically in the range between 2 and 5. We expect that most patients will receive two treatments spaced 1-2 months apart, but your physician will determine the best regime during your consultation based on your physiology and goals.

What areas can Kybella treat?:

Submental and Body.

TRUSCULPT ID

What is TruSculpt?

The truSculpt™ system provides non-invasive radio frequency treatment for body sculpting. TruSculpt™ uses radiofrequency energy for deep tissue heating that promotes the non-invasive removal of fat and the tightening of the overlying skin. In addition to reducing fat, truSculpt treatments can help improve skin tone, and can also improve the appearance of cellulite.

Who is a Candidate for TruSculpt?

TruSculpt is a great option for individuals who are close to their ideal body weight but are bothered by localized fat deposits that are resistant to exercise and diet. It can be used on various areas including the abdomen, love handles, thighs, double chin, and neck.

This treatment is also an effective option for patients taking Semagluide medications like Wegovy and Ozepmic who have lost a significant amount of weight, resulting in skin laxity. Due to TruSculpt’s skin tightening properties, this treatment can improve sagging skin for a smoother, more youthful skin appearance.

What can I expect with TruSculpt?

Dr. Chapas and Dr. MacGregor are leading authorities on truSculpt. After working with Cutera, the device’s manufacturer, to establish the most effective protocols, we were pleased to offer truSculpt™ to our patients in early 2013. Our experience has been that truSculpt™ is well tolerated by our patients, with minimal discomfort and no downtime. Treatment time depends on the area(s) treated, but typically a treatment takes between 15 minutes and an hour per area treated. Typically 1-2 treatments are necessary for the best results, which generally appear over a period of 4-16 weeks following the treatment. We continue to work with Cutera to develop treatment protocols for new areas, such as the neck.

We have also found that truSculpt™ can often complement other body contouring treatments, and can be used to treat a wide range of areas, including certain areas that present challenges for other noninvasive systems.

VELASHAPE III

What is VelaShape 3?:

VelaShape 3 is a non-invasive treatment that uses a combination of technologies to contour your body and reduce the appearance of cellulite. Vacuum technology manipulates your skin while infrared light and bi-polar radio frequency energies gently heat fat cells and surrounding tissue.

What can I expect with VelaShape 3?:

After 3-6 treatments, patients typically notice a reduction in both circumference and in the appearance of cellulite in the treated areas. The surface of the skin will feel smoother and firmer, too. Some patients see results after their first visit, and in its clinical trials, VelaShape 3 led to a reduction of one full dress size after a series of treatments.

What areas does VelaShape 3 treat?:

Buttocks
Thighs
Abdomen

ISOLAZ

What is Isolaz?:
Isolaz is a safe and effective acne treatment. It purifies pores deep down to attack acne causing bacteria at the source. Isolaz treatment is great for all acne, except cystic lesions, and can treat all skin types, light and dark. During your consultation, the physicians will evaluate your acne and determine which acne treatment is right for you.
What can I expect with Isolaz?:

The Isolaz technology was first introduced in 2005. Dr. Anne Chapas and Dr. Jennifer Chwalek have been using the device since it was first introduced. Isolaz technology combines vacuum with a broadband light to deliver effective acne treatments. The vacuum helps loosen and extract dirt, blackheads and excess oil from deep within your pores. Then the light helps destroy acne causing bacteria, as well as reducing facial redness.

After cleansing and steaming the skin, the laser treatment on the face takes 15 to 20 minutes, whereas treatments on the back and chest may take a little longer. Typically, two to six treatments are needed. However, the exact number of treatments varies from patient to patient and will be determined by your physician.

Typically, patients can see a visible improvement in the redness or severity of their acne after the first treatment. It’s important to stick to the treatment plan that we will outline for you to see the full effects of treatment. Recent reports have shown that Isolaz can make prescription treatment work more efficiently.

In a clinical study, 100% of patients noted Isolaz treatments were painless*. For this reason, Isolaz is easily performed on teens as well as adults.

While everyone’s skin is different, many patients who have not responded to other acne treatments, including Accutane, other antibiotics, topical creams or even lasers have responded to Isolaz treatments. In fact, studies have shown that 85%* of people who have an Isolaz treatment will experience clearer skin.

PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY

Types: Levulan Kerastick®, Metvixia®, Allumera™, Red light, blue light, V-Beam Perfecta®, Intense pulsed light

What is Photodynamic therapy?:

Photodynamic therapy is a revolutionary two-step process to treat a variety of skin diseases including actinic keratosis (pre-cancerous lesions), acne, enlarged pores, and some skin cancers. Photodynamic therapy specifically treats the problem skin while leaving normal skin unaffected. Multiple lesions are simultaneously treated at each session and treatment may also prevent the development of new lesions.

What can I expect with Photodynamic therapy?:

In the first step, a photosensitizing solution (Levulan Kerastick®)  or cream (Metvixia® or Allumera™) is applied to the skin and is taken up by the targeted cells. While the patient is resting in a darkened room, these cells convert the photosensitizer to a light sensitive pharmaceutical compound. Laser or light source exposure activates the light sensitive compound to eliminate the targeted cells, such as cancerous, precancerous cells, oil glands or acne causing bacteria. Photodynamic treatments are safe, effective and well tolerated by most patients, but typically care must be taken to avoid exposure to sunlight for 48 hours following the treatment.

What areas does Photodynamic therapy treat?:

Face
Legs
Hands
Arms
Scalp

PROTÉGÉ ELITE

What is Protégé Elite?:

Protégé Elite is a painless and effective facial contouring and skin tightening treatment. The device’s next-generation radio frequency tightens existing collagen and stimulates the production of new collagen to improve skin laxity. Protégé Elite is useful for patients with visible signs of aging on both the face and body, including fine lines or wrinkles, sagging skin, or uneven texture.

What can I expect with Protégé Elite?:

The procedure feels like a warm massage as the energy wand waves over the affected area in a circular application pattern. Protégé Elite is appropriate as a first-time skin tightening treatment or for patients wanting to maintain or improve the results of previous skin tightening procedures, including Thermage and Ultherapy. Protégé Elite typically requires a series of a few sessions approximately as a first-time treatment. For patients using Protégé Elite as a maintenance treatment, plan to have around two sessions every six months following Thermage or Ultherapy to continue building collagen and maintain skin tightening.

What areas does Protégé Elite treat?:

Face
Neck + Décolletage
Hands, Elbows, + Arms
Abdomen
Legs + Knees

SOFWAVE

What is Sofwave?

Sofwave is a non-invasive ultrasound device that stimulates collagen production in the dermis to tighten and correct excess skin laxity.

The gentle integrated cooling technique ensures no damage to the epidermis or to the underlying structures beneath the dermis. Not only is Sofwave safe for all skin tones and types, but the treatment is clinically proven to remodel collagen, improve facial lines, reduce wrinkles, and lift lax or loose skin.

Why Choose UnionDerm for Sofwave Treatments?

UnionDerm was one of the first practices in the country to offer Sofwave when it first launched in 2021. We currently offer Sofwave at all three of our locations: Union Square, Central Park, and Hamptons.

We have conducted multiple clinical trials with Sofwave to examine additional indications and treatments using their ultrasound technology. Our clinical trial to assess the Sofwave device for treating cellulite in the upper posterior thighs and buttocks led to their FDA clearance for short-term improvement in the appearance of cellulite by the Sofwave system. Our acne scarring study also helped Sofwave gain FDA clearance for the treatment of acne scars.

Who is a Candidate for Sofwave?

Ideal Software candidates are those with mild to moderate skin aging and skin laxity who desire to lift the brow or submental/neck area. This typically includes those in their 30s or older. This treatment is safe for all skin types and tones.

Sofwave can also be used to tighten skin and improve skin laxity on areas of the body such as the abdomen, arms and buttocks. Sofwave can also be effective in tightening lax, sagging skin caused by rapid weight loss from Semaglutide medications such as Wegovy and Ozempic.

However, individuals who are pregnant and have implanted electrical devices in their bodies should not undergo this treatment. For more information regarding candidacy, please schedule a consultation with one of our board-certified dermatologists today.

What Can I Expect with Sofwave?

Sofwave uses Proprietary Intense Ultrasound Beam Technology™ (IUB) to pass sound wave energy through the skin’s surface. Seven high-frequency ultrasound beams propagate through the tissue to increase and regenerate collagen. This procedure tightens lax skin and improves wrinkle appearance; in a study, 86% of subjects demonstrated improvement in wrinkle appearance. The treatment, which lasts up to 45 minutes, requires little downtime.

Noticeable Sofwave results depend on the physician technique as well as the following of safety protocols and proper treatment parameters. In light of this, our board-certified dermatologists personally administer the treatment.

What Areas Does Sofwave Treat?

  • Face
  • Body
