DR. KENNETH HOWE

. . . . .

Dr. Kenneth Howe comes to UnionDerm after working over 20 years at the Wexler Dermatology group in Manhattan.  His large and successful practice focuses on both aesthetic and medical dermatology.

As a cosmetic dermatologist, Dr. Howe is known for his light touch.  He believes that smaller, earlier interventions allow patients to maintain a youthful appearance while at the same time preventing or slowing further aging. Calm and reassuring in manner, Dr. Howe is an expert in guiding patients through the variety of available options, from the simplest topical agents to cutting edge procedures. He values maintaining an open dialogue between doctor and patient throughout this process.

The goal of all aesthetic treatments, in Dr. Howe’s view, is to achieve and maintain a completely natural look. What is done must be dictated in each case by careful study of the anatomy and structure of the individual face.  This approach is particularly noteworthy in Dr. Howe’s use of injectable fillers and toxins, of which he is a recognized expert.

Dr. Howe’s interests and expertise extends to body contouring procedures as well.  He uses radiofrequency, laser, and high-intensity focused ultrasound devices to shape and contour the body, and to address sagging or crepey skin in troublesome areas such as the upper arms and thighs.

Beyond aesthetic dermatology, Dr. Howe cares for a variety of medical skin conditions, with a particular emphasis on the early detection and treatment of skin cancer and the diagnosis and management of hair loss and acne.  In the treatment of pattern hair loss, Dr. Howe has had great success using PRP (platelet rich plasma) and microneedling.  To control and clear up acne, he combines conventional medical treatments with the latest laser technology.  These safe but powerful devices stop breakouts and clear up blemishes through treatments delivered directly to the involved skin, eliminating the need for systemic medications.

Dr. Howe has authored two chapters in a widely-used dermatology textbook, a Photo Guide of Common Skin Disorders (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins 2003) as well as numerous medical articles in Dermatologic Surgery, Journal of American Academy of Dermatology, International Journal of Dermatology, Dermapathology and Cutis. Dr. Howe has been a featured panelist at the American Academy of Dermatology and has lectured before the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, the American Society of Dermatopathology, the New York Academy of Medicine, and the Pediatric Dermatologic Society.  He has also served on the Advisory Board for LUBRIDERM®.

Dr. Kenneth Howe graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania, with a degree in the Biological Basis of Behavior.  He received a medical degree with honors from UCLA in 1990, and completed his dermatology training at the University of Pennsylvania.  Currently he is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Dermatology Department of Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he has received two teaching awards for his work with the dermatology residents. He is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery.
