Aging is a beautiful and natural part of life. You gain valuable life experience, make wonderful memories and see your family grow and evolve over time. But as the decades pass, our skin begins to change as well. As you age, your skin loses its collagen and elasticity, rendering it more fragile. Additionally, a decrease in a production of hyaluronic acid, a water-absorbing substance in the skin, can lead to a thinned and dull appearance.  We begin to develop increased wrinkles, fine lines, age spots and growths, such as skin tags and warts,  and even skin cancers! For women, menopause directly impacts hormone levels which further changes our skin quality, texture and elasticity.

While these are all a natural part of aging, it is possible to stimulate collagen production and add hyaluronic acid to keep your skin looking young, healthy, and vibrant.  At Union Square Laser Dermatology, we specialize in non-invasive cosmetic treatments and topical skincare plans that slow – or sometimes even reverse – the signs of aging.  We have patients of all ages, and fully understand the unique needs of our more mature patients. We recommend treatment plans directed toward your specific concerns that are both safe and efficacious.

During your consultation, our Board-Certified Dermatologists will discuss your goals, thoroughly evaluate your skin and medical history, and recommend a 6-12 month treatment plan. Our dermatologists always consult with and treat you directly, not a nurse, physician assistant or physician extender.

For laxity on the face and body, we often recommend skin tightening treatments such as Thermage, Ultherapy, Protege Sofwave, and Secret RF microneeding. For lessening both dark spots and wrinkles, Fraxel is a powerful procedure that also has been statistically shown to reduce the growth of Seborrheic Keratosis (SKs). We are one of the only practices in the city that offers both the ablative Fraxel Re:Pair and the non-ablative Fraxel Re:Store Dual to customize the level of fractionated energy needs to your skin concerns.  Our dermatologists have decades of experience with injectables, including botulinum toxin, soft-tissue fillers like Juvederm and Restylane, and suture-suspension threads. By using a combination of modalities, we are able to treat wrinkles, add volume and lift to sagging areas, and stimulate your body’s natural collagen production.

Finally, every patient should receive a full-body skin exam at least annually. Often, patients above the age of 50 experience a significant increase in benign skin lesions and skin cancers alike. If there is a suspicious spot, our dermatologists will perform a biopsy to determine the pathology and pursue the necessary treatment. We also have an out-patient Moh’s micrographic surgeon, Dr. Jennifer Chwalek, available to treat skin cancers of the face, ears, neck and chest. Dr. Chwalek is specifically trained to remove the cancerous cells all while leaving the smallest and least visible scar possible.
